Wattbike the only factory calibrated static bike that accurately measures power and delivers performance data for cyclists puts the fittest men and women on earth to the test

San Jose, CA & Nottingham, UK – (August 2, 2011) – Wattbike, the innovative indoor cycle trainer is proud to announce that their elite training bike, the Wattbike Pro was used within one of the hardest workouts at this year’s 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games.  The Wattbike is the only static bike ever used in the CrossFit Games and was chosen by the CrossFit Games because it is the world’s only static bike that provides complete accuracy of data (measures power output/Watts 100 times per second) and repeatability of the scores.  The Wattbike Trainer and Pro bikes also deliver key performance data across 39 parameters which can be viewed on the attached polar computer display or on a PC for a more in depth workout overview.

CrossFit competitors had to complete an assortment of cycling exercises on the Wattbike including racing 700 meters during the individual men and women’s Killer Kage.  The Masters Final featured a 500m race and during the team events, team members had to complete two sets of 500 meters.  To watch the play by play video of the 2011 CrossFit Games Wattbike Challenge visit the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games website at: http://games.crossfit.com/finals/live/jumbotron/629369

The CrossFit Games are the world’s premier test to find the fittest men and women on Earth. The Games season is a grueling multi-stage journey that culminated in the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games on July 29-31 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Attracting more than 26,000 athletes from around the world, individual athletes and teams must progress through two stages of screening before reaching the Games: the Open and Regionals. Only the fittest 60 men, 60 women, and 30 teams from each of the world’s 17 regions are invited to compete at their Regional for a chance to enter the finals and compete for a $250,000 first prize and the title of “Fittest Man or Woman on Earth”.

“Every year CrossFit competitors are challenged to prove their fitness with physically demanding tests,” says Dave Castro, Director of the CrossFit Games. “The Wattbike was chosen for one of these events because it is a static bike that delivers measurable output and performance feedback.”

“We are very proud that CrossFit chose the Wattbike as one of the surprise events at the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games. To have some of the fittest men and women on earth competing on our bikes was great,” says Ian Wilson, Managing Director of Wattbike. “We are further thrilled to officially introduce the Wattbike into the CrossFit culture around the world and are looking forward to helping CrossFitters everywhere to further improve their fitness.”

The Wattbike Trainer and Pro bikes are designed to replicate the sensation of ‘real’ cycling and deliver accurate, repeatable and comparable results. About Crossfit Games

The CrossFit Games are the world’s premier test to find the Fittest on Earth. CrossFit is an evidence-based fitness program. CrossFit defines fitness as increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains. Capacity is the ability to do real work, which should be measurable. Life is unpredictable (much more so than sport), so real world fitness must be broad and not specialized. CrossFit workouts are designed to maximize this broad, inclusive fitness. About Wattbike

In 2000, the founders of Wattbike approached British Cycling with the idea to create an indoor bike which accurately measures a range of high-performance parameters; six years later the governing body was satisfied that the Wattbike met their criteria and today Wattbike remains the first and only indoor cycle trainer to be endorsed by British Cycling. Launched to the public in 2008, Wattbike quickly established itself as the indoor cycle trainer of choice for elite athletes, gym chains and the home fitness market.  For more information please visit http://www.wattbike.com
