Small, future proof solution features concurrent support of ANT® and Bluetooth® low energy; RF regulatory certified and fully integrated for fast time-to-market.
Cochrane, Alberta – March 27, 2014 – Dynastream Innovations Inc., the global leader in the development of wearable and wireless products, today announces the availability of the N548, the first dual protocol ANT® SoC (System on Chip) Module. Based on Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF51422 SoC, this 2.4 GHz solution offers support for both ANT® and Bluetooth® low energy, and enables both protocols to run concurrently. The extremely small N548 is sized for wearable, home and industrial trends in a 14.0mm x 9.8mm x 2.0mm LGA (Land Grid Array) package. Designed for manufacturing ease, this turnkey hardware solution is fully integrated with PCB antenna, 32kHz crystal time base, DC-DC converter, and 24 GPIOs with six analog inputs, allowing developers the freedom to focus on their specific applications.
“This new module brings together a combination of technology that has never before existed and will be instrumental in driving the exploding world of ultra low power wireless to a whole new level of connectivity,” stated Jim Rooney, President, Dynastream Innovations Inc. “It will further fuel the interoperable ecosystem of over 100M ANT+ devices and the fast growing array of smartphones and tablets. This will quickly bring new and valuable products to the market. We are excited to give customers the benefits of our many years in wireless, wrapped up in this tiny package. I can’t wait to see the designs it inspires.”
As the newest product in Dynastream’s component line, the N548 is priced for volume production with no usage fees. The module is pre-certified with FCC/IC/CE/JP/AU/NZ designations and Bluetooth qualification. Its reduced cost and overhead make this module the perfect platform for broad usage, simple sensors as well as cost-focused applications. The N548 highlights the distinct advantages of the established ANT protocol, including its strong position in Android smart phones, while enabling a bridge connection between available ANT+ devices and the iOS platform.
“The immediate attachment to the ANT+ ecosystem and iOS products, and the resource efficiencies of ANT are significant advantages of the N548 module,” added Rod Morris, Vice President, ANT Wireless. “With ANT’s advanced capabilities in home and commercial applications as well as sport, health and fitness, the N548 will inspire development of simple and complex devices alike. We definitely see this solution as enabling a plethora of new designs in new market segments and throughout the existing ANT and ANT+ customer bases.”
Known for the seamless and reliable interoperability of ANT+, ease of pairing and bi-directional sensor communication, the ANT protocol has been enabling successful sport, fitness and health devices for over ten years. Users now rely on ANT to manage multiple sensors in crowded race environments, simple and complex interchanging and pairing of devices, and transferring data from multiple sensors to multiple displays simultaneously. Ultra long battery life and ANT’s efficient, low overhead management of flexible topologies also make ANT the ideal solution for active RFID, smart beacons, asset tags, audience response systems and home automation.
Sold through global distributors such as Rutronik, Arrow, IO Components, and Digi-Key, (www.dynastream.com/find-a-disti) , the N548 is now available in full production quantity in three different packages:
– N548M8CB 14.0mm x 9.8mm x 2.0mm LGA
– N548M4CB 20.0mm x 20.0mm package; pin compatible with legacy modules from Dynastream
– N548M5CB with a Molex connector
The N548 Starter Kit, sold via the same distribution channels, includes the N548M5CB and is ideal for out-of-the box evaluation and development. For more information, please visit: www.dynastream.com/N5starterkit
The N548 will be featured in Nordic Semiconductor’s European Tech Tour in May 2014.
